Gallifrey was a rather big con in comparison to any of the cons I went to back in the day in Dallas (where I'm from). It was an enjoyable experience thanks to a rather understanding friend (it's a rather long and embarrasing story). However, if you like to go to a con that features many 'extra' outside fandom (Freaking NASA was there! Which was extra fun for me!), a dealer room to die for (met one of the offical photographers of POTC selling her 'work' which I might add was another cherry topper for me ) and some fannish stuff (director in charge of the 3D animation (one of my failed majors in college was 3D Animation) for BSG was there...another cherry topper lol) and not to mention meeting other fans. All in all it was a good time and staying in the hotel that the con was in blessing (never did that before). Don't know if its going to be at the same place I was at but it was REALLY close to the airport, shuttle fun time (though my friend picked me up and dropped me off at the airport). If you are going there strictly for the con then I guess don't worry about the 'tours' of Hollywood that the hotel offers, if you would like to do something like that then plan to save for that expense. I was told Disneyland was close but I didn't bother going because I didn't have the endurance to go to the park myself. I didn't see any movie stars besides 'Seven' and 'Ace' :D (sounds like a card game when I put it that way lol).
Having not gone to Chicago TARDIS yet so I can't give you a comparison to that Con. Basically, Gallifrey is a great con, reasonable price for 'membership' but eating will get expensive fast.
Will I be going again for 2010's con--Unfortunately not. It's either the Con or my residency...my Doctorate comes first hehehe
