Minor rant

Don't correct my punctuation unless you're absolutely sure you're right and I'm wrong. And even then, it's best to do it politely. If you incorrectly "correct" me and you have an attitude while doing so, it irritates me. It especially irritates me on a day when I've been to the dentist and my teeth are still incredibly sensitive and I feel like pulling half of them out by hand.

Thanks. I was told the sensitivity should pass in a day or so, and I really hope it happens sooner rather than later.

Word. People sometimes 'correct' me and they are wrong. I know they are wrong. I study the structure of languages for fun. I also am Australian and I often get people who know American English 'correcting' my grammar, spelling or punctuation - because everything in the English language must be done the American way, of course.

*sigh*

Yeah. If I'm not sure whether an author's usage is correct, I google it. A couple of minutes of research can save me from making a fool of myself, plus I'll have learned something. I still wince at the memory of one reader who angrily ranted in a Teaspoon "essay" (back when such postings were still allowed) that "whinge" was not a word and she was sick of seeing it. If only she'd bothered to check her facts first.

My teeth feel a little better by now. :)

Wow. That's pretty impressive! That reminds me of the time when someone tried to convince my sister in the Sentinel fandom that an Australian character would say 'buggers' instead of 'bugger' (as in 'Bugger! I spilt my drink!').

Needless to say, my sister gleefully corrected the corrector. :) If I encountered that person, I probably would have responded with the sarcastic phrase - 'have a whinge, why don't you!'
