Two Doctor Who fic recs

Here are a couple of recent stories that I liked a lot.

A List of the Lost, by aralias (3700 words, G)
Summary: The fifth Doctor has a multitude of companions, but is rarely alone with any of them. Here we have five times he was, each time after losing someone else.

Automatic bonus for being a Fifth Doctor story! Also, this fic has nice characterization of Peri, Turlough, Adric, Nyssa, and Tegan. Probably my favorite part is the one with Nyssa, but each section is very good.



Only Biography, by sahiya (5400 words, All Ages)
Summary: Biographies were the Doctor's favorite literary form. (Crossover with Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosiverse)

Here's a crossover that works really well. I liked the way the Tenth Doctor decided to collect a new companion and how he set about doing so. This story is part of a series. I haven't yet read the rest, but I want to.

Dude, are you a Vorkosiverse fan? I ask because I read Only Biography and adored it, largely because I think Cordelia is kickass awesome and needs more love in fic, but I came at it from the Vorkosigan side of the fandom.

I just recently started to read the books. I've gone through three so far and I have a couple more on hold at the library.

They're kind of awesome. Especially because Miles's superpower is his ability to bullshit his way through anything and because Cordelia is just made of all kinds of win. Definitely worth a read-through, but I guess I don't have to tell you that. :D

Oh man, thanks for the link to Only Biography. I never would have dared hope someone would cross them over. :D

Since I see you're not far in the Vorkosigan saga, I'll avoid spoilers but let's just say a certain episode from DW S4 had me sorely tempted to write TL;DR meta comparing the two. Only Biography is pre-S4, but I would love to see how Cordelia related to that situation.

I'll keep that in mind as I read farther into the series. I have to get to the library soon and pick up the books being held for me. With winter coming on, I'll be going out less and reading more.
