Worst new show of the season

Every year, I watch all the new dramas (premiering in the fall) and make my pick for Worst New Show. Last year's winner was the incredible Viva Laughlin, which was cancelled after two airings. Previous title holders include Head Cases and MDs. If I included midseason entries, The Bedford Diaries would also have a place of dishonor.

This season was a bit lacking in serious contenders. The Ex List, Knight Rider, and My Own Worst Enemy are all bad, but not one show in that lot reaches the depths to which the worst of the worst always sinks. After much thought, then, I awarded this year's title of Worst New Show to: Crusoe!

Sure, it looks pretty and a lot of money was poured into it. But no show is allowed to bore me that much. It just is not right. Crusoe is incredibly dumbed down and I could feel my brain cells dying as I watched the pilot. Plus, it's pretty sad when a show set on an island plays the campy-pirates card in its first hour and doesn't even manage to make those pirates interesting. Subsequent episodes have been equally dismal.

Sometimes a show with horrible acting, dreadful writing, and stupid plots claws its way into the so-bad-it's-good division. Other times, it's just plain crap. Congratulations, Crusoe, for falling into the latter category.

BTW, I found a very interesting site with lots of ratings stats. TV By the Numbers predicts a quick death for Crusoe and places series like Life, Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone, and (yet again) The Sarah Connor Chronicles strongly in the danger zone.

NO CANCELING PUSHING DAISIES. Tell them I said that. NO NO NO.

I've never actually seen The Ex List, but I hate it. Is that weird? I think it's the actress that I don't like, she was on Grey's Anatomy exactly at the time it started sucking.

I've heard a lot of bad things about the future of Pushing Daisies. This season's 13th episode was written in such a way that it could serve as a series finale if the show doesn't get renewed. OTOH, everything I'd observed indicated that The Sarah Connor Chronicles would be off the air by now and somehow, despite dismal numbers, it got picked up for the season.

The Ex List is already off the schedule (though not yet officially cancelled, I believe) and an NCIS rerun that aired in its timeslot last week got about twice the viewership. The NCIS episode also did WAY better than the numbers Moonlight typically got last season in that slot.

Crusoe is dismally bad, and yet I watch it with my Granma every week. It had so much potential and I'm quite sad that it's totally not worth the time of day.

But Pushing Daisies! That should not be canceled. I love that show so much.

Crusoe could have been really good. I feel like they told the story the wrong way and it's all just so predictable and dull. :(

The writers' strike seems to have hurt Pushing Daisies (and some other shows) a lot. People fell out of the habit of watching and haven't returned.
