Chicago TARDIS recap: Saturday
Dec. 2nd, 2009 07:57 pmFriday recap
Again, programming kicked off at 10am.
First stop was a photo with Jason Haigh-Ellery, Nicholas Briggs, and India Fisher. Now, I hate having my picture taken, so it really says something that I not only went through with this but actually waited in line for it. (True, I was near the front of the line and it moved quickly, but still.) It was not even 10:30 by that point, so I went to the second half of Stars Over Stockbridge (a discussion of DW comics).
At 11, I checked out Women of the RTD Era, where the general consensus seemed to be that of the major characters, Martha had the most successful arc, and Rose the least. Well, getting stuck with Handy in Pete's World wasn't exactly empowering. Just sayin'.
Next, I dropped in on the Big Finish Writing Panel. More anecdotes and insight. Also, "Subscribers get more at Bigfinish.com".
Chicks Dig Time Lords had many authors featured in the upcoming book. They gave an idea of the broad range of opinions contained in the book.
I stayed in the same room for Paul McGann, Daphne Ashbrook, and Yee Jee Tso. Paul had a lot of "I don't remember" answers when questioned about the TV-movie, but he clearly recalled his hatred of the wig he wore in it. Daphne had watched the movie not long before coming to the con. Yee Jee was pretty diplomatic when asked what it was like to work with Eric Roberts (as the Master).
Next up was another Big Finish panel. I almost, almost went to Whither Torchwood? instead--if anyone who's reading this entry did attend that session, fill me in on the highlights? Anyway, we got more anecdotes and chat.
I remained in Main Programming for the fifth panel in a row, as Naoko Mori (Tosh from Torchwood) was onstage. She was adorable, and pretty much as I had imagined she would be.
At 5pm, I took a break. More Dealers' Room browsing, talking to people, relaxing.
Then I went to get Naoko Mori's autograph. Several photos were available for purchase, and I was very torn. Finally chose one of the TW cast. After that, I sat in on "Vampires and Other Creeps" for around 25 minutes, would have stayed for the whole thing but had a conflict with another activity.
The Masquerade Show was my next stop. The costumes and skits were very creative. People had dressed as Adric, Reinette, Martha, the Tenth Doctor, a Dalek, and much more. The halftime entertainment was the Match Game, an inspired choice. After that, the masquerade prizes were announced.
For my final session of the day, I attended Mysterious Theatre 337: The Android Invasion. The participants made some good, snarky cracks. I was very tired by this point, but I wanted to stay for the whole thing and did, then went upstairs and promptly fell asleep. End of day 2.
